My first day in the Impact Performance gym was February 24, 2020. I weighed 257 pounds which was an unfortunate personal record high. My lab results and vital signs during my annual physical were not good. I was facing two total knee replacement surgeries. I had not worked out regularly in the last 10 years. I was 72 years old.
I would never have even stepped into the Impact Performance gym if it had not been for my good friend and business partner, Bill Daniel. Each time I saw Bill at one of our quarterly business reviews I was very impressed by his physical condition. For the past two years, Bill regularly encouraged me to check out Impact Performance and meet his trainer, Shawn Herron. I knew I needed to make this change but the demands of the corporate world, including a heavy travel schedule, were pretty intense plus family and other responsibilities. However, as Bill continued to coach me up, I finally reached that point in my head where I realized that the time had come for me to start getting control of my physical condition.
Everyone I came in contact with at Impact Performance was welcoming and supportive. I felt like I belonged right away.
I got started by just putting one foot in front of the other since I knew how important it was to firmly establish an exercise routine during those first days in the gym. Everyone I came in contact with at Impact Performance was welcoming and supportive. I felt like I belonged right away. Shawn has done an outstanding job as my trainer by not only consistently providing support and encouragement, while skillfully explaining the science behind each of the exercises, but also orienting me to the routines of the gym and patiently teaching me how to use the equipment. Shawn has carefully pushed me forward so that I am continually challenged. Also, Shawn has given me valuable guidance, which has proven to be very effective, regarding nutrition and how to clean up my diet.
Once I established my workout routine, I really started to look forward to going to the gym regularly. The gym culture is professional and businesslike while at the same time a collegial atmosphere exists. Members are serious about working hard and making progress regardless of their level of fitness. In some ways it feels like my football locker room back in school and I’ve enjoyed making many new acquaintances. Members not only encourage each other but also help reinforce accountability. Ownership and staff are always present and helpful. The trainers are knowledgeable and clearly add exceptional value to the gym experience.
September 12, 2020 was the 200th day since I joined the Impact Performance gym. I now weigh 212 losing those 45 pounds gradually over the past six months again proving that consistency is the key. My lab results and vitals have improved significantly. Due to COVID-19 and a few other bumps in the road (not related to the gym), I still have to deal with two knee replacements but clearly am now much better prepared. I realize that I still have a lot of work to do but am confident that I am heading in the right direction and I am now 73 years old.
